East London lies on the Indian Ocean coast of the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa and is known as the only river port in South Africa because of its location between the Buffalo and Nahoon Rivers. The city manages to combine old fashioned values with laid back charm to create one of the most appealing cities in the world.
The East London Airport is a small but bustling airport serving the Eastern Cape. Established in 1927, the airport services approximately three hundred and forty thousand passengers a year and accommodates between twenty to thirty flights a day. The airport is located around 15km from the city centre and offers the usual range of passenger services including a coffee shop, restaurant and book shop.
Passengers flying to East London from Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport and the Cape Town International Airport have a limited choice of low-cost economy flights on offer from 1Time Airlines. 1Time Airlines flights are scheduled only on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays between Cape Town and East London and seven days a week from Johannesburg to East London. Additionally, there is generally only one flight scheduled per day between these destinations.
Due to their very nature, the cheap flights to East London from Johannesburg and Cape Town which are available from 1Time Airlines, are scheduled at their peak times throughout the day with only one flight available on that day. Passengers wishing to travel at alternative times will need to make use of the more expensive flights on offer from South African Airways.
Due to the limited schedule offered by the low cost airline, passengers can also make use of a number of economy and business class flights from South African Airways, South African Airlink and South African Express from Johannesburg International and Cape Town International airports. South African Airways offer a choice of business and economy class flights with in-flight meals and complimentary beverages, but do not offer low-cost economy options while 1Time Airlines provides no-frills budget flights. Passengers can also fly into East London from Durban or Port Elizabeth via South African Airways.
South African Airways, although not providing cheap flights to East London, do offer a wide choice of flights and flight times which are scheduled seven days a week between Cape Town International Airport and East London, Durban’s King Shaka International Airport and East London and between Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport and East London. The flights between Port Elizabeth and East London airports are offered Monday to Friday only with no flights available on weekends.
It is important to plan your trip accordingly when looking for cheap flights to East London. This is due, in large part, to the irregular schedule of flights offered by 1Time Airlines, as they are the only low cost airline offering flights on this route.
